Do not downplay pain

The holiday season meant more time spent with your kids running around, doing errands, and buying gifts, preparing for festivities, and just doing fun stuff until the wee hours. Still, all these activities may have taken a toll on your body, and you might feel nagging aches and pains, headache, unsettling anxiety, or persistent lack of energy.

Now, it’s back to doing your daily routine, but before going back on track, think about yourself and your state, physically and mentally.

As a Physiotherapist, Acupuncturist, and Nutritionist in Lismore I often hear, “It is not until I started to feel better that I realized just how ‘lousy’I felt.” Chronic inflammation often underpins persistent pain, and it can be low-grade and affect the whole body.

Many clients present in the clinic with various complaints such as aches and pains that hinder their daily living activities and their quality of life. At our clinic, I help you understand and discover the underlying cause of inflammation and chronic pain instead of masking symptoms and resorting to pain medications that just mask symptoms.

When we are busy, we tend to overlook factors such as our lifestyle, nutrition, past injury, stress, and basically our overall health.

  • Do you have a busy schedule with no time to exercise?
  • Do you lack sleep or have had a previous injury that causes you to have limited mobility?
  • Are you struggling with stress at school or work?

These are some of the factors that are best not ignored.

Our combination of physiotherapy, gentle Japanese acupuncture, and nutritional advice can make a difference to your ability to heal, and quality of life.

Here are some statistics to give you further knowledge and information:

15% of the population suffer from migraine headaches, with an additional 36% of men and 42% of women also suffering tension headaches.

67% of Australians over the age of 15 experience pain, with chronic pain affecting 29% of the population.

80% of severe pain sufferers over the age of 45 were overweight or obese, lived a sedentary lifestyle, and had other concurrent health risks.

95% of all chronic disease comes from food choices, toxic ingredients, and lack of physical exercise.

To medically treat and manage pain, analgesics, anti-inflammatory medication, and anti-depressants are prescribed but is it enough? Is it working for you? There is more that needs to be provided to manage pain effectively.

As stated above, some factors are overlooked but need to be addressed to recover from injury. The importance of diet and lifestyle choices are on top of the list.

Acute sports injury, bone fracture, or nagging chronic pain, the effectiveness of tissue repair is dependent on providing essential raw nutrients at a cellular level such as protein, vitamin, and mineral cofactors, which someone can get from having a healthy diet and lifestyle.

Bone alone needs 60% more protein and adequate calories in the diet to repair. A high carb diet, pre-packaged or take away foods that are poor in nutrients can slow repair.

Too much sugar intake is a problem as well. There are hidden sugars in foods we eat without us knowing. Even plain cereals and low-fat yoghurt are loaded with too much sugar. Don’t forget to check the labels. Eating better snacks such as nuts or fruits are preferable.

My favorite saying is, “You are what you eat. If you don’t put it in your mouth, it aren’t there.”

Assuming that you eat right. The nutrients from the food to the cells for repair undergoes a process. Factors such as stress, poor digestion, or gut bugs can get in the way of the nutrients’ absorption and injury resolution.

Our three-dimensional approach to pain and injury together with a complete musculoskeletal assessment to identify muscle, spinal or joint issues, and how to safely and effectively stretch and strengthen back to fitness, allows for a speedy recovery.

In-house treatment with acupuncture before soft tissue releases and massage helps shut down painful trigger points and improves blood flow that causes longer-lasting relaxation.

With a nutritional medicine assessment, underlying inflammation triggers that could cause headache, joint pain, muscle soreness, brain fog, or fatigue that complicates recovery will be resolved.

Feeling healthy physically and mentally can significantly affect how we do our activities every day and our quality of life, so do not downplay your pain! Call now on 02 66252925 to seek the help that you need.
